Terrorist, Bannu IBO, Operation 11 Garaj

A terrorist belonging to a banned outfit was neutralized while another, identified as a local commander, was injured during an intelligence based operation conducted by security forces in Bannu, security sources said on Thursday.

According to the sources, the operation was launched after security forces received credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists hiding in a suspected hideout in the district. Acting swiftly on the information, troops moved into the area, established a cordon around the suspected location and launched a targeted search operation.

As security personnel closed in, the terrorists detected the advancing troops and opened fire in an attempt to break the cordon and escape. The security forces responded effectively, triggering an intense exchange of fire.

During the operation, a terrorist identified as Arif was neutralized, while the group’s commander, identified by the alias “Lezari,” sustained injuries. Security sources said the wounded commander managed to flee the scene with the help of his accomplices, and a follow-up search operation was launched to trace and apprehend him.

A cache of arms, ammunition and communication equipment was also recovered from the terrorists’ hideout. The recovered material is expected to assist investigators in identifying the group’s facilitators and operational network in the area.

Security forces continued search and sanitization operations in the surrounding localities to ensure that no terrorist escaped and to eliminate any remaining threats. Additional troops were deployed to nearby routes amid fears that fleeing terrorists could attempt to relocate to other hideouts.

The latest operation comes as security forces have intensified intelligence based operations across southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, deny terrorists safe havens and prevent planned attacks against civilians and security personnel.

Bannu has remained one of the focal districts in Pakistan’s ongoing counterterrorism campaign due to repeated attempts by terrorists to regroup and target law enforcement agencies. Security officials have reiterated that operations against terrorist networks will continue until the area is completely cleared of their presence, with intelligence driven actions remaining the cornerstone of the campaign.
