Security forces neutralized eight terrorists of the banned Tehreek-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), or the Fitna al-Khwarij (FAK) as declared by the state, during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan, dealing another significant setback to terrorist networks operating in the region.
According to security sources, the operation was launched after receiving credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists at a suspected hideout. As troops moved in on the location, the terrorists attempted to resist, triggering an intense exchange of fire.
Following the successful engagement, eight terrorists were eliminated. Security personnel also recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and other military equipment from their possession.
Sources said the neutralized terrorists were believed to be involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area, including attacks on security forces and attempts to disrupt peace and stability in the region. Their identities are being verified.
A sanitization operation was launched immediately after the engagement to ensure that no other terrorists remained in the vicinity and to clear the area of any potential threats, including improvised explosive devices.
North Waziristan has remained a focal point of Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts due to repeated attempts by terrorist groups to use remote border areas as operational bases. Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations in recent months under the broader national counterterrorism campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure and preventing cross-border infiltration.
The latest operation comes amid continued efforts by Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies to eliminate terrorist networks and deny them the ability to regroup. Officials have reiterated that operations will continue until the threat posed by foreign-sponsored terrorist organizations is completely eradicated.
Security analysts note that sustained intelligence-led operations have significantly degraded the operational capabilities of terrorist groups in former tribal districts, forcing them to rely on smaller cells and hit-and-run tactics. However, they warn that continued vigilance remains essential as terrorist organizations seek to exploit cross-border sanctuaries and support networks.
The operation underscores Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam” and the broader objective of ensuring lasting peace and security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the country’s border regions.
