Security forces successfully foiled a terror attack and eliminated four khawarij affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), declared by the state as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” during a high-intensity operation in the North Waziristan tribal district.
According to security sources, khawarij had launched an armed assault on a patrolling unit of the Pakistan Army. Following the attack, the assailants attempted to flee the area but were tracked down as part of an immediate response by the military.
The suspects were later located in a forested region, where a containment maneuver was swiftly executed by Pakistani troops. As forces surrounded the hideout, khawarij opened heavy fire, prompting a fierce gunbattle.
A prolonged exchange of fire ensued, during which all four khawarij were neutralised one by one. No casualties were reported on the side of the security forces.
The operation marks yet another successful engagement in the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in Pakistan’s northwestern belt, where Fitna al-Khawarij-linked factions have tried to regroup in recent months. Officials say such swift and targeted responses are key to maintaining pressure on terrorist networks operating along the border regions.
The identities of the slain khawarij have not been disclosed pending further verification, and a clearance operation is underway in the surrounding area to rule out the presence of any remaining threats.
