Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Ghana Defence Chief at GHQ, Discusses Expanded Military Cooperation

Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met the Chief of Defence Staff of the Republic of Ghana, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Upon arrival at GHQ, the visiting Ghanaian defence chief was presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, evolving regional and global security dynamics, and avenues to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.

According to ISPR, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding military-to-military relations, with particular emphasis on joint training programmes, counterterrorism cooperation, and collaboration in defence production.

The Ghanaian defence chief appreciated the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and acknowledged their contributions to regional peace and stability.

Officials said the discussions reflected a shared interest in deepening institutional linkages between the two militaries, particularly in training exchanges and capacity-building initiatives.

In parallel engagements, Ghana’s National Security Coordinator Abdul-Razak Osman visited the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where he met Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.

During the meeting, matters related to maritime security, naval cooperation, and training exchanges were discussed, with both sides expressing interest in expanding collaboration in these fields.

The visiting delegation also called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at the Air Headquarters in Islamabad, where professional military cooperation and broader defence engagement were discussed.

The series of high-level engagements underscored expanding defence diplomacy between Pakistan and Ghana, with a focus on training cooperation, institutional linkages, and shared approaches to contemporary security challenges.
