A major terror plot was successfully foiled in a precision intelligence-based operation early this morning, when an explosive-laden vehicle was destroyed in a targeted drone strike in the Azam Warsak area of Birmal Tehsil, South Waziristan Lower.
According to security sources, the operation was carried out at approximately 0500 hours in the Sarah Gharah area of Azam Warsak, following credible and time-sensitive intelligence indicating the preparation of a vehicle-borne explosive device intended for a potential suicide attack.
The targeted vehicle was reportedly loaded with a substantial quantity of explosive material and had been positioned for use in a planned terrorist operation. Acting on verified intelligence inputs, security forces executed a precise drone strike, neutralising the threat before it could be operationalised. Officials confirmed that the strike successfully destroyed the vehicle on site, preventing what is believed to have been a major terrorist attack in the region.
The resulting detonation was described as extremely powerful, with the explosion reportedly heard across Wanna and adjoining localities. Shockwaves from the blast were strong enough to shatter windowpanes of nearby homes and buildings, underscoring the magnitude of the explosives that had been loaded into the vehicle.
Despite the intensity of the explosion, no civilian casualties have been reported in connection with the operation, as the target was engaged in a remote and controlled manner away from populated civilian concentrations.
Security officials emphasised that the timely and intelligence-driven nature of the operation prevented a potentially devastating attack that could have resulted in significant loss of innocent lives and widespread destruction.
The operation reflects continued efforts by security forces to counter terrorist threats through rapid response mechanisms, precise intelligence coordination, and targeted action against identified threats.
Authorities have reiterated that counterterrorism operations in the region will continue based on actionable intelligence to ensure the safety and security of civilians and to prevent any attempts to destabilise peace in the area.
