In a pivotal moment for Pakistan U.S. relations, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House on Wednesday. The high-level engagement held over a luncheon in the Cabinet Room and followed by an extended session in the Oval Office signaled renewed strategic convergence between the two nations amid shifting global dynamics.
President Trump was accompanied by U.S. Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio and Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs Mr. Steve Witkoff. Field Marshal Asim Munir was joined by Pakistan’s National Security Advisor.
During the meeting, the COAS conveyed the Government and people of Pakistan’s profound appreciation for President Trump’s decisive role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India during the recent regional crisis. He commended President Trump’s statesmanship and ability to address complex geopolitical realities with clarity and resolve.
President Trump, in response, lauded Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote regional peace and stability, particularly its enduring cooperation in counter-terrorism. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral collaboration in the security domain.
The dialogue further delved into emerging opportunities for enhanced cooperation across multiple sectors—including trade, mineral development, artificial intelligence, energy, cryptocurrency, and next-generation technologies. President Trump expressed a strong interest in advancing a robust and mutually beneficial economic partnership with Pakistan grounded in long-term strategic alignment.
A detailed exchange also took place on the evolving situation in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel. Both leaders emphasized the urgency of diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and avoid a wider regional escalation.
President Trump praised Field Marshal Asim Munir’s steady leadership and strategic vision at a time of regional uncertainty, describing him as a “decisive and forward-looking leader.” In a gesture underscoring the warmth of bilateral ties, Field Marshal Munir extended a formal invitation on behalf of the Government of Pakistan for President Trump to visit Pakistan. The U.S. President acknowledged the invitation positively.
Notably, the engagement, initially scheduled for one hour, extended well beyond two hours reflecting the depth, cordiality, and strategic weight of the conversation.
