Bloody Infighting Exposes Taliban’s Crumbling Grip on Security

Two Taliban fighters were killed in an internal clash over land in Afghanistan’s Sar-e Pol province, exposing ongoing fractures and weakening control within the ranks of the Taliban regime.

The incident took place in the village of Kuchan in Kohistan district. According to local sources, the clash erupted over a land dispute between Taliban members, resulting in the death of one fighter. Taliban intelligence officials arrested the alleged shooter.

However, while transporting the suspect to the district center, the Taliban vehicle was ambushed near the Khawamat crossroads by armed men on six motorcycles. A second gunbattle broke out, during which the detained fighter was also killed.

The Taliban authorities have not issued any public statement regarding the incident or the reported deaths.

This is not an isolated case. Similar deadly disputes among Taliban members have occurred in provinces such as Baghlan and Badakhshan, highlighting the ongoing instability and deteriorating security even within their own forces.

Afghanistan’s internal security situation continues to deteriorate as the Taliban-led government struggles to maintain control over the country. Frequent attacks by ISIS-K and other militant groups, along with rising ethnic tensions and economic instability, have exposed the government’s weakening grip. The lack of a unified security structure limited international recognition, and growing discontent among the population have further deepened the crisis, leaving the country vulnerable to internal chaos and external threats.
