A major tragedy was averted when an explosion occurred dangerously close to the railway track near Sibi, moments before the arrival of the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express. The blast, which took place just outside the Sibi Railway Station, caused no casualties but temporarily disrupted rail operations.
According to railway officials, the device detonated approximately two to two-and-a-half feet from the main track as the Jaffar Express was approaching the station. “The explosion occurred shortly before the train reached the vicinity. Fortunately, there was no damage to the locomotive or passengers,” a senior railway official said.
Security forces and bomb disposal units immediately reached the site and cordoned off the area. Investigators are currently examining the scene to determine the nature and origin of the explosion. Preliminary findings suggest it was a low-intensity device aimed at disrupting rail traffic rather than causing mass casualties.
“Personnel are conducting a thorough sweep of the area. The safety of passengers remains our top priority,” the official added, noting that a full clearance operation is underway.
As a precaution, both up and down Jaffar Express services have been halted at the Sibi Railway Station. Railway authorities have assured the public that normal train operations will resume shortly once the track is declared secure. “Restoration work is in progress and we expect to resume movement soon,” the railway spokesperson confirmed.
The attempted sabotage has once again raised concerns about the security of critical infrastructure in Balochistan. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to bolstering safety measures along key rail routes, particularly in vulnerable regions.
