In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, Bannu police and CTD foiled a potential terror plot during a joint intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the jurisdiction of Ghoriwala Police Station.
Acting on credible intelligence, law enforcement personnel raided suspected hideouts of wanted criminals and extremist operatives, detaining multiple suspects now under interrogation.
The real alarm was raised when a suspicious bag was discovered during the search operation. Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain two live hand grenades and other explosive materials — enough to cause massive casualties had it not been intercepted in time. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was swiftly called in and successfully neutralized the explosives, averting a likely tragedy.
DPO Bannu, Saleem Abbas Kalachi, confirmed that the operation was part of the police’s broader strategy to eliminate terrorist networks and restore peace in the region. He reaffirmed that such targeted actions will continue, and warned of ongoing threats from terror elements still lurking in parts of the district.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, emphasising that community cooperation is vital to uprooting the menace of terrorism.
