The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for an armed assault targeting the Taliban’s Directorate of the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Kunduz province, resulting in the deaths of two Taliban members and injuries to another.
In an official statement released Tuesday, the AFF said the operation was conducted late Monday night and specifically targeted the office of Mullah Najib Ghafori, who heads the Taliban’s morality police in Kunduz. While the group confirmed fatalities among Taliban personnel, it said the status of Mullah Ghafori remains unknown.
The AFF described the attack as a retaliatory measure in response to what it called “arbitrary arrests, the abduction of women, and the systematic harassment of civilians” by the Taliban’s morality enforcement units. It further warned that similar operations would continue until such practices are halted.
“The Taliban’s so-called morality police have become a tool of repression. Their leadership, offices, and personnel will remain legitimate military targets,” the statement read.
The Taliban authorities have not issued any public comment on the incident. The AFF, composed largely of former Afghan security forces, has intensified its armed resistance against Taliban rule since its emergence, frequently targeting security installations and officials aligned with the group.
