Afghan Taliban Fighter Ghaus ur Rehman Neutralized in Kurram Border Clash

Afghan Taliban Fighter, Ghaus ur Rehman, Neutralized in Kurram

An Afghan Taliban fighter identified as Ghaus ur Rehman, a resident of Qarabagh district in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province, was neutralized in a clash with Pakistani forces along the Kurram-Paktika border three days ago, according to available information.

The reported killing comes amid renewed border tensions following unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban personnel and a foiled attempt by terrorists to infiltrate Pakistan through the Ghoz Garhi border area of Kurram district.

In the latest border confrontation reported on October 17, Afghan Taliban personnel opened fire in the Taida sector of Upper Kurram and near Ghoz Garhi. Pakistani forces responded with heavy weapons and artillery, targeting Afghan Taliban border positions, including the Topsar post and Shipola base camp. Security sources said several Afghan Taliban personnel were killed during the retaliatory action near Ghoz Garhi, while the Shipola base camp was destroyed.

The firing was described by Pakistani security sources as an attempt to facilitate cross-border infiltration. Pakistani troops thwarted the infiltration attempt and responded to the firing, maintaining control of their positions along the frontier.

The latest confrontation followed earlier cross-border tensions in September, when Pakistani forces foiled another infiltration attempt into Kurram from Afghanistan and responded to firing on Pakistani border posts. Pakistani sources said the earlier attempt involved terrorists seeking to enter the country from Afghan positions in Nangarhar and Paktia provinces.

Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns about terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory, while the Afghan Taliban authorities have rejected allegations that they allow their soil to be used against Pakistan.

Further details about Ghaus ur Rehman’s role, the circumstances of his death and the specific clash in which he was killed remain unavailable.
