Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, in an interview with Sky News, laid bare the facts behind the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India, emphasising that the development was a result of intensive diplomatic efforts led by multiple countries.
He revealed that the ceasefire was achieved through the mediation of the United States, China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, and Qatar. The Prime Minister of Pakistan extended special gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his proactive role in facilitating the peace initiative.
“This ceasefire is not a result of any weakness on Pakistan’s part—it is the outcome of a successful strategy,” Tarar stated. He confirmed that following the ceasefire, the first formal contact between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries has already taken place.
The Minister asserted that Pakistan had targeted Indian military installations and ammunition depots, inflicting visible damage. “India was in no position to endure further escalation,” he said.
Tarar also pointed out that President Trump, in a follow-up message, reiterated his desire to see a resolution of the Kashmir dispute, underlining that the U.S. is keen on facilitating a peaceful solution to the long-standing issue.
Responding to concerns about water flows, the Minister clarified that India has not blocked Pakistan’s water supply, nor does it have the capability to do so. “Water supply remains uninterrupted and is continuing as per routine,” he said.
Commenting on the recent incident in Pahalgam, Tarar expressed Pakistan’s sorrow and sympathy over the loss of lives, stating that Pakistan had offered full cooperation in transparent investigations. However, India, he noted, hastily blamed Pakistan without presenting a single piece of evidence. “No group has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, and India has so far failed to substantiate its accusations,” he said.
He added that the incident, which took place in a highly militarised zone with over 700,000 Indian troops deployed in occupied Kashmir, is indicative of a major Indian security lapse. “India’s intelligence apparatus has been exposed, and it has failed miserably in trying to link the attack to Pakistan,” he emphasized.
Tarar reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism, highlighting ongoing operations against militant elements along the western border. “Pakistan has sacrificed the lives of innocent civilians, soldiers, and officers in this fight, and there are no safe havens for terrorists in the country,” he said.
Concluding the interview, the Minister stated that the entire nation stands united with the armed forces of Pakistan. “Our victory is as clear as daylight,” he declared.
