Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar Rejects India’s Baseless Allegations in Call with EU’s Josep Borrell

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephonic conversation with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, to brief him on recent regional developments and express Pakistan’s grave concerns over India’s hostile actions.

According to the Foreign Office, the Foreign Minister categorically rejected India’s baseless allegations and propaganda in the wake of the April 22 incident in Pahalgam. He expressed deep concern over India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, describing it as a blatant violation of international law. He reiterated Pakistan’s proposal for an independent and transparent investigation into the incident.

The spokesperson stated that the EU representative urged both sides to exercise restraint, while acknowledging the need for dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

Following the Pahalgam attack on local tourists, India launched a malicious campaign of provocations and unfounded accusations against Pakistan, which included the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, orders for Pakistani diplomatic staff to leave India by April 30, 2025, and a series of aggressive measures including the cancellation of Pakistani visas.

In response, Pakistan convened a high-level meeting of the National Security Committee, which strongly condemned India’s belligerent posture. The committee signaled a potential suspension of all bilateral agreements, including the Simla Accord. It also announced the closure of Pakistan’s airspace, borders, and trade routes for India.

As part of its reciprocal measures, Pakistan decided to reduce the strength of the Indian High Commission to 30 personnel and declared Indian military and diplomatic advisers persona non grata. All Indian visas, except for Sikh pilgrims, were cancelled with a 48-hour deadline for departure.

On April 30, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar warned that credible intelligence had confirmed India’s intentions to launch military aggression within the next 24 to 36 hours, using the Pahalgam incident as a pretext.

Pakistan continues to urge the international community to take notice of India’s reckless provocations, which threaten regional peace and stability.
