A police constable was martyred while a Health Department official sustained critical injuries when unidentified assailants opened fire on a vehicle on Ghani Khan Road in Charsadda on Tuesday, according to police sources.
The targeted attack occurred within the jurisdiction of Charsadda City Police Station, where armed motorcyclists ambushed a car, resulting in the instant martyrdom of Constable Farooq, who was deployed at the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office.
A government official from the Health Department, who was also travelling in the vehicle, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was critically injured. The assailants fled the scene following the assault.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to apprehend the perpetrators. The body of the martyred constable and the injured government employee were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Police officials said the nature of the incident is being thoroughly examined, and an investigation has been initiated from various angles to ascertain the motive and identify those responsible.
