US Condemns Pahalgam Attack, Urges Justice as Tensions Rise Due to India’s Mishandling of Occupied Kashmir

The United States has reacted to rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent deadly incident in the occupied region of Kashmir, reiterating its condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and calling for those responsible to be brought to justice.

Speaking at a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Tamie Bruce expressed sympathy for the victims, stating, “We offer our prayers for those who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident and wish a swift recovery to those injured.”

When asked about former President Donald Trump’s earlier expressions of willingness to mediate between India and Pakistan during his first term, Bruce declined to comment, saying, “I will not speak on that matter.” She noted that both President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have previously addressed the issue and made their positions clear, adding, “I have nothing further to add at this time.”

On whether the Trump administration is playing a role in de-escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, Bruce stated, “The situation is rapidly evolving, and we are closely monitoring developments. At this time, we are not taking a position on the status of Kashmir or Jammu.”

Tensions between India and Pakistan have intensified after the killing of 26 Indian tourists in Pahalgam, a region of occupied Kashmir where the Indian state continues to face widespread resistance and instability. Despite Indian claims, Islamabad has maintained that the root of the unrest lies in India’s oppressive policies in the disputed region.
