Authorities have given Afghan migrants residing in South Waziristan a five-day deadline to register with local police stations, in a move aimed at identifying undocumented individuals and maintaining regional security.
According to officials, the South Waziristan Police have launched the registration drive as part of Pakistan’s broader effort to manage migrant populations and curb unlawful activities. Afghan nationals who fail to register within the stipulated period will face arrest and legal action.
Asif Bahadur, head of South Waziristan Police, shared that the process must be completed within five days. He stressed that registering Afghan migrants is essential for both identification and law and order. “Anyone who does not register will be arrested, and legal action will be taken,” he warned.
Bahadur stated that the measure will help prevent illegal activities and ensure a safer environment for local residents. The campaign follows Pakistan’s ongoing crackdown on undocumented Afghan nationals across the country.
The directive has caused anxiety among Afghan migrant communities in the region, with many fearing arrest or forced repatriation. Human rights organisations have expressed concern, urging the Pakistani government to adhere to international protection standards and provide humanitarian assistance where needed.
