A surveillance drone crashed into the outer wall of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) headquarters in Lahore, raising suspicions that the facility may have been under reconnaissance for a possible terrorist attack, police said.

According to police, the drone approached from the Jallo Mor direction towards Harbanspura at around 12:30 a.m. before striking the building’s outer wall and falling to the ground.

The drone was of an advanced design, and its attached camera and battery light were still active after the crash. Police said it may have been used to survey the interior sections of the CTD headquarters, although the purpose of the flight remains under investigation.

Following the incident, the Bomb Disposal Squad examined the drone and declared it clear. The CTD security team subsequently took the device into its custody.

Authorities said investigations were underway to examine all aspects of the incident. The CTD security team has also submitted an application to Harbanspura police for further legal action.

The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Punjab. Four days earlier, the provincial government had extended its ban on flying drones in open areas across the province by another 30 days.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restriction aims to protect public safety, maintain law and order, and safeguard public and private property. District administrations and police officials have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the ban.

The circumstances surrounding the drone’s flight, including whether it was deliberately directed towards the CTD headquarters, remain under investigation.
