Just two days after terrorists targeted civilians with a quadcopter attack in South Waziristan, residential areas in North Waziristan and Lakki Marwat have come under fresh drone attacks, damaging several homes and claiming the life of a civilian.
According to local sources, approximately six quadcopter attacks were reported last night in the village of Harmuz in Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan. The attacks damaged multiple residential houses, raising concerns about the safety of residents and the possibility of further civilian casualties.
Residents said the repeated aerial attacks had put local families at risk, with homes and civilian properties increasingly exposed to strikes involving weaponized quadcopters.
In a separate incident in Lakki Marwat, a quadcopter drone targeted a house, killing a man identified as Yaseen. The attack added to concerns over the growing use of drone technology to target civilian locations in the region.
The latest incidents come just two days after terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Khwarij carried out a quadcopter attack against the civilian population in the Barwand area of South Waziristan. Two people were injured in that attack.
The recurrence of such attacks across adjoining districts highlights the threat posed by the use of weaponized commercial-style drones in terrorist operations. Quadcopter platforms can be used to carry and drop explosive devices, allowing attackers to target homes and other locations without direct physical contact.
The targeting of residential properties also raises serious concerns about the protection of civilians, particularly in areas where repeated attacks can force families to leave their homes and disrupt everyday life.
Further details about the extent of damage in Harmuz, possible additional casualties and the perpetrators behind the latest attacks were awaited.
