At least seven people were seriously injured when gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on a tribal gathering in the Jangal Pir Alizai area of Qila Abdullah district, Balochistan, according to initial reports.
The attackers reportedly arrived in vehicles and on motorcycles before opening fire on the gathering. Some of the injured were said to be in critical condition.
According to local sources, the tribal group had held a gathering a day earlier to celebrate the imposition of governor’s rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, it was not immediately clear whether the earlier event was directly linked to the shooting or what motivated the attack.
Following the incident, the injured were taken to the Trauma Center in Miza Adda for initial medical treatment. Those in critical condition were subsequently referred to Quetta for further treatment.
Further details about the identities of the attackers, the circumstances surrounding the shooting and any arrests were awaited. No claim of responsibility was mentioned in the initial reports.
