Pakistan’s security forces have successfully foiled an attempted cross-border infiltration by a group of Khawarij along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border opposite North Waziristan District, killing 15 militants following a sustained engagement that lasted approximately 36 hours, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The security operation began after the movement of a group identified by ISPR as belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij was detected during the night of August 31–September 1, 2026.
According to ISPR, the group was attempting to infiltrate Pakistani territory through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Security forces responded with professionalism, patience and tactical precision, successfully engaging the infiltrators and preventing them from advancing further into the country.
Following the prolonged engagement, 15 Khawarij were killed, ISPR said.
The operation represents another significant counterterrorism engagement along Pakistan’s western frontier, where security forces continue to confront attempts by militant groups to exploit difficult terrain and cross-border routes. ISPR stated that the engagement continued for approximately 36 hours and involved precise and skillful action by Pakistani troops.
The operation ultimately resulted in the elimination of the infiltrating group and prevented the reported attempt to establish a foothold inside Pakistani territory. The successful response also highlights the importance of surveillance and intelligence-based detection along the country’s western border, particularly in areas vulnerable to infiltration and militant movement.
Following the engagement, security forces launched a follow-up sanitization operation in the area. During the operation, a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the militants killed during the engagement, according to ISPR. The recovery, the military said, further demonstrated the nature of the threat posed by the group and provided additional evidence regarding what it described as the wider designs of the Khawarij and their facilitators to undermine peace and stability in Pakistan.
Security forces are continuing efforts to clear the area and ensure that no other militants remain concealed in the vicinity.
The latest incident has also renewed Pakistan’s longstanding concerns regarding the use of Afghan territory for cross-border terrorism. According to ISPR, the incident once again reinforces Pakistan’s position that the Afghan Taliban regime has failed to effectively prevent terrorist organizations from using Afghan soil for attacks and infiltration into Pakistan.
Pakistan has repeatedly called for effective border management and concrete action against militant groups operating from territory across the border.
ISPR maintained that the Afghan Taliban regime has continued to fall short of what Pakistan describes as its international obligations to prevent its territory from being exploited for terrorist activities against neighboring countries.
Pakistan’s western border remains a key focus of the country’s counterterrorism and national-security efforts. The latest infiltration attempt demonstrates the continuing challenges faced by security forces in monitoring and securing a long and difficult frontier. For Pakistan, preventing militant infiltration is essential to protecting border communities, safeguarding national territory and disrupting terrorist networks before they can establish operational capabilities inside the country.
Security forces have therefore maintained a high level of vigilance along sensitive sections of the border and continue to conduct intelligence-based operations against militant threats.
Following the elimination of the infiltrating group, security forces have continued a sanitization operation aimed at locating any remaining militants or facilitators in the area. According to ISPR, the operation is intended to ensure that no additional Khawarij remain in the vicinity and that the area is fully secured. The ongoing operation also forms part of broader efforts to prevent militants from exploiting remote areas as temporary staging grounds or infiltration routes.
Authorities remain focused on identifying and eliminating any remaining threats while maintaining security along the border.
The operation is being described by ISPR as part of Pakistan’s continuing counterterrorism campaign under the national vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan. The campaign is intended to strengthen coordinated counterterrorism efforts by the country’s security forces and law-enforcement agencies and to address the threat posed by terrorism and militant networks.
According to ISPR, the campaign will continue at full pace with the objective of eliminating what it describes as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country. The military has reiterated that security forces and law-enforcement agencies remain committed to pursuing terrorist elements wherever they are identified
