The Afghan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for a guerrilla attack in Ghazni province, describing Friday evening’s operation as its first such action in the province.
According to a statement issued by the group, the attack was carried out on August 28 in the Ab Qala area of Waghaz district, targeting Mullah Omar Siddique, identified by the group as a deputy of the Taliban’s Hafiz Badruddin Division 06 in Ghazni.
The FLF claimed that Siddique was killed during the attack. It further claimed that a small firearm and a pistol belonging to the Taliban official were recovered by its fighters following the operation.
The group also released video footage purportedly showing the attack. The footage shows an armed man travelling on a motorcycle being shot at by individuals inside a vehicle, after which the man is seen lying on the roadside.
The claim could not be independently verified, and details regarding the circumstances of the attack remain limited.
The reported operation comes amid continuing armed resistance against the Taliban regime in several parts of Afghanistan, with opposition groups periodically claiming attacks against Taliban personnel and security structures.
