Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Wah, Pakistan’s largest defence industrial complex, where he reviewed the country’s defence production capabilities and ongoing efforts to strengthen self-reliance in the defence sector.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Army Chief was given a detailed briefing on POF’s production capabilities, export potential and its role in strengthening Pakistan’s indigenous defence industrial base.
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir witnessed tests and trials of various weapons and ammunition designed and manufactured locally. He was also briefed on measures aimed at expanding domestic production of modern defence equipment, promoting research and innovation, and reducing reliance on external sources.
The briefing also covered progress on the corporatization of Pakistan Ordnance Factories following the implementation of the DIPRA Ordinance, with the Army Chief apprised of steps being taken as part of the ongoing process.
The Army Chief was further informed about plans to expand defence production through the establishment of two new industrial plants and initiatives to promote advanced technology and indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
According to the ISPR, both plants are expected to commence production by the end of this year, potentially further expanding POF’s production capacity and technological capabilities.
The visit underscored Pakistan’s continued focus on strengthening its indigenous defence industry through local manufacturing, technological development, research and innovation, while also enhancing the country’s capacity to meet domestic defence requirements and expand its presence in international defence markets.
The emphasis on indigenous production and technological advancement comes as Pakistan continues efforts to develop a more capable and self-reliant defence industrial base, with institutions such as POF playing a central role in the production of weapons, ammunition and other defence-related equipment.
