Authorities have sought the deployment of 450 Federal Constabulary (FC) personnel to strengthen security at sensitive installations in Bannu and Lakki Marwat amid a deteriorating law and order situation and ongoing protests by members of the Police Aman Committee.
According to an official communication, a request has been forwarded for the deployment of 10 FC platoons comprising a total of 450 personnel to perform security duties at sensitive locations in the two southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts.
The request follows growing security concerns in Bannu, where the ongoing protests by members of the Police Aman Committee have reportedly affected the movement of district administration and judicial officials, while incidents including alleged threats to officials, obstruction of official movement, road closures and aerial firing have further complicated the security situation.
The official communication states that the withdrawal of police personnel from sensitive installations and the possibility of renewed agitation have also contributed to the situation, prompting a requirement for additional security personnel.
In Bannu, FC personnel have been requested for the security of the Bannu Central Jail, Judicial Complex, Peshawar High Court Bannu Bench, Deputy Commissioner’s Office and a grid station.
For Lakki Marwat, additional FC security has been sought for the district jail, Judicial Complex and district administration offices.
The request for FC deployment was conveyed through the regional police office to the Inspector General’s Office for further processing.
The move comes against the backdrop of continuing tensions in Bannu and Lakki Marwat, where disruptions linked to the Police Aman Committee protests have raised concerns over the security of government installations and the uninterrupted movement of officials and the public.
The deployment of additional FC personnel is intended to secure sensitive installations and help ensure that regular police resources can remain available for routine law enforcement, counter-terrorism and other security duties across the two districts.
Authorities are also expected to monitor the situation closely as efforts continue to restore normalcy and prevent further disruption to public life and government operations.
Meanwhile, there is mounting public criticism of the Police Aman Committees’ ongoing protest. Citizens have questioned how committees established in the name of peace can justify measures that allegedly cause hardship to the public, including the closure of the Indus Highway.
Residents have also criticized the reported refusal of some protesting personnel to accept transfer orders and their alleged refusal to wear police uniforms while carrying weapons in public. They have urged the authorities to take action against those violating official orders and to ensure that roads remain open and essential public services are not disrupted.
Citizens have particularly warned that road blockades are causing difficulties for commuters, students, patients travelling to hospitals and their attendants, while prolonged disruption in districts already facing serious security challenges could further aggravate the situation.
The demand for FC deployment therefore comes against a backdrop of both heightened security concerns and growing public frustration over the conduct of the protesting police personnel.
The additional force is expected to provide security to sensitive government and judicial installations and help ensure that regular police personnel remain available for law enforcement, counter-terrorism and other security duties.
