Afghanistan United Front (AUF) has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Taliban base in the Malgha area of Bandar district in Afghanistan’s northern Faryab province, claiming that two Taliban members were killed and four others wounded in the assault.

According to the opposition group’s claim, its fighters targeted a Taliban position in the area, resulting in casualties among the Taliban personnel stationed at the base. The group said the attack was carried out as part of its ongoing armed resistance against the Taliban authorities in northern Afghanistan.

The AUF further claimed that one of its fighters went missing following the operation. It did not provide further details about the fighter’s whereabouts or whether he was separated from the group during the assault or subsequently captured.

The incident adds to reports of continued armed activity and resistance against Taliban-controlled positions in parts of northern Afghanistan, where opposition groups have periodically claimed attacks on Taliban installations and personnel.

Faryab, which shares a border with Turkmenistan and has long been regarded as a strategically significant northern province, has witnessed security tensions since the Taliban returned to power. The province’s difficult terrain and its location along key routes have also made security control a persistent challenge.

The Taliban authorities have not independently confirmed the reported casualties or immediately issued details regarding the alleged attack.

The latest claim comes amid continued reports of armed opposition activity in Afghanistan, underscoring the fragile security environment facing Taliban-controlled areas despite repeated claims by the regime that it has restored nationwide security.
