Security forces have neutralized a terrorist who allegedly opened fire during violent unrest on Mall Road in Rawalpindi, according to sources.
The slain terrorist has been identified as Muhammad Hussain, a resident of Khyber district, who sources claim was an active worker of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to the sources, a party flag, weapons, ammunition and important documents were recovered from his possession following the operation. The recoveries are expected to form part of the investigation into the incident and the circumstances surrounding the firing.
Sources further claimed that Hussain had remained in contact with elements within the party leadership and had allegedly been acting on their instructions. These claims are subject to further investigation and verification by the relevant authorities.
Investigators were also told that Hussain had previously participated in protests, demonstrations and sit-ins where he was allegedly involved in provocation, stone-pelting and firing. Sources further alleged that he had also targeted security personnel with gunfire during such incidents.
The latest development comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding violent protests and the use of firearms during public demonstrations. Security personnel have increasingly been placed on alert at sensitive locations and along major roads to prevent demonstrations from escalating into armed confrontations.
Authorities are expected to examine the recovered weapons and documents, as well as Hussain’s alleged links and previous activities, as part of the ongoing investigation. The findings could help establish whether the Mall Road incident was an isolated act of violence or part of a wider plan to disrupt public order.
