An Afghan Khawarij suicide attacker targeted the main gate of Kabal Police Station in Swat on Sunday evening. The attacker was prevented from entering the police compound after being intercepted by alert police personnel, but detonated his explosive device at the entrance, resulting in the martyrdom of seven people, including four police personnel, three civilians, and a child, according to police officials.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Fida Hassan Shah stated that vigilant police personnel confronted and stopped the Afghan Khawarij suicide attacker before he could breach the police compound. Their timely and courageous response prevented what could have been a far deadlier attack on one of the district’s most important security installations.
According to the RPO, the Kabal Police Compound houses the police station, police lines, a public facilitation centre, and several other government offices. Had the attacker succeeded in entering the compound, the resulting loss of life and destruction could have been substantially greater.
The explosion occurred at the main entrance after the attacker was challenged by police personnel. The blast caused casualties among police officers and civilians in the vicinity, while rescue teams and law enforcement agencies immediately responded, evacuating the injured, securing the area, and launching emergency response operations.
Police officials confirmed that seven people embraced martyrdom, including four police personnel and three civilians. According to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Malakand, one child is also among the martyrs, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the attack.
Following the incident, security forces and police cordoned off the area, while bomb disposal and forensic teams began collecting evidence from the scene. A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the attack and identify any facilitators or support network involved.
Senior police officials paid tribute to the exceptional bravery, professionalism, and sacrifice of the police personnel whose swift action prevented the Afghan Khawarij suicide attacker from entering the compound. Their courage significantly reduced the scale of the tragedy and protected numerous lives.
