The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police successfully repulsed a major terrorist attack on the Khazina Check Post in Hangu District, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers during a robust and determined counter-operation. According to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), 15 Khawarij terrorists have been killed, while several others sustained injuries. The clearance operation remains in progress.
The attack was launched earlier today when heavily armed Khawarij terrorists mounted a coordinated assault on the Khazina Check Post using sophisticated weapons in an attempt to overrun the police position. The officers and personnel deployed at the check post displayed exceptional courage, professionalism, and steadfast resolve, mounting a determined defense despite facing an intense and sustained attack.
Upon receiving reports of the assault, additional police reinforcements were immediately dispatched under the leadership of the SDPO City to support the personnel defending the check post. However, the terrorists had laid an ambush along the reinforcement route. The responding police convoy came under heavy fire, causing significant damage to the lead Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
Despite the well-planned ambush and the difficult operational conditions, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police personnel fought with remarkable bravery and tactical effectiveness. In the ensuing exchange of fire, police forces inflicted substantial casualties on the terrorists, killing 15 Khawarij and wounding several others, thereby frustrating their attempt to achieve their objectives.
The operation, however, came at a heavy cost. DSP Diyar Khan embraced martyrdom while leading his men from the front with exemplary courage and devotion to duty. Alongside him, nine brave police personnel laid down their lives in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Additionally, 28 police personnel, including DSP Mujahid Hussain, sustained injuries during the fierce engagement and are receiving medical treatment.
Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed paid rich tribute to the unparalleled courage, resilience, and sacrifice demonstrated by the police officers and personnel. He stated that the sons of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police stood “like a rock” against the terrorists under the most challenging and perilous circumstances, embracing martyrdom while fulfilling their sacred duty to protect the lives and security of the people.
The IGP announced that recommendations for the highest departmental honours will be submitted in recognition of the extraordinary gallantry displayed by the martyrs. He also affirmed that he would personally visit the families of the fallen heroes to offer condolences and meet the injured personnel to acknowledge their courage and sacrifice.
Reiterating the unwavering resolve of the force, the IGP declared that the morale of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remains exceptionally high and their determination is stronger than ever. He emphasized that the campaign against terrorism will continue with full force until every terrorist is eliminated and lasting peace is restored across the province.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remain resolute in their mission to defend the people against terrorism. The sacrifices rendered by the martyrs stand as a powerful testament to the force’s unwavering commitment to protecting the country, and no act of terrorism will weaken its resolve to eradicate the menace of extremism.
