Two police personnel embraced martyrdom after terrorists ambushed a police patrol in the Spinwam Tehsil of North Waziristan’s Mir Ali subdivision on Friday, officials and local sources said.

According to sources, the police team was performing routine patrol duties in the area when terrorists lying in wait opened indiscriminate fire, triggering a deadly attack.

The two policemen, identified as Naqeebullah and Sher Qadir, sustained critical gunshot wounds and embraced martyrdom at the scene before they could be shifted for medical treatment.

Their bodies were later moved to a nearby hospital to complete medico-legal formalities before being handed over to their families for burial with full official honors.

Soon after the attack, a heavy contingent of police and security forces rushed to the area, cordoned off the scene, and launched a large-scale search operation. Strategic checkpoints were established on key routes while efforts were initiated to trace and apprehend the attackers, who reportedly fled the area after the assault.

Officials said the attack bore the hallmarks of Fitna al-Khwarij, whose terrorists have repeatedly targeted police personnel and security forces in an attempt to undermine peace and stability in the region.

Police authorities condemned the attack and reaffirmed that those responsible would be tracked down and brought to justice. They stressed that such cowardly acts would not weaken the resolve of law enforcement agencies or deter ongoing counterterrorism operations across the district.

The martyrdom of the two policemen adds to the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan’s law enforcement personnel in the fight against terrorism, as intelligence-based operations and targeted actions against Fitna al-Khwarij continue across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
