At least one student was killed and 10 others injured when a hand grenade was hurled at the Kabul University dormitory on Friday, according to sources.

The blast reportedly occurred around 8 pm inside or near the university hostel premises. Taliban authorities arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.

Sources said the dead body and injured students were shifted to a nearby medical facility, including Aliabad Hospital in Kabul.

Following the blast, the area was cordoned off and access was restricted. It is also alleged that efforts were made to control the flow of information from the site.

According to sources, mobile phones were taken from some students who recorded videos of the incident, while media personnel were reportedly not allowed access to the area.

The injured students are receiving treatment at hospitals in Kabul.

The incident has raised concerns over security conditions in Afghanistan, with questions being asked about how even educational institutions, including universities, remain vulnerable under the current situation.

It has also triggered criticism regarding restrictions on media access, with concerns that journalists are not being allowed to report freely from such incidents.
