Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for an attack targeting a Taliban facility belonging to the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Herat province.
In a statement, the group said its fighters carried out an attack on Taliban personnel stationed at the main entrance of the ministry’s local office in Herat city.
According to the AFF, the assault resulted in the elimination of three Taliban members and injuries to two others. The claims could not be independently verified, and Taliban authorities had not immediately commented on the reported incident.
The anti-Taliban group said the operation was conducted in solidarity with what it described as liberal-minded Afghan citizens, including women and men protesting against Taliban policies and restrictions.
The statement further claimed that the targeted ministry had previously been designated by the group as a legitimate target due to its role in enforcing Taliban social policies.
The AFF also linked the attack to recent reports of demonstrations and public discontent in Herat, alleging that Taliban authorities had sought to suppress protests and harass women in the province.
The incident comes amid reports of growing tensions in several Afghan provinces, including Herat, where videos circulating online have shown demonstrations and confrontations involving residents and Taliban authorities.
In its statement, the Afghanistan Freedom Front urged Herat residents to avoid Taliban military vehicles and locations where Taliban personnel gather, citing the possibility of future attacks.
The Taliban administration has frequently dismissed the operational capabilities of armed opposition groups and maintains that security conditions across Afghanistan remain under control. However, groups such as the Afghanistan Freedom Front continue to claim attacks against Taliban personnel and installations in various parts of the country.
Further details regarding the incident remain unclear, and independent confirmation of casualties has not yet emerged.
