Pakistan’s security forces successfully averted a potential terrorist attack in Bannu after recovering and safely defusing an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along a public roadway.
According to security sources, the explosive device was discovered during a routine area clearance and security operation conducted in the region. Preliminary assessments indicate that the IED had been carefully concealed beneath the middle of the road, suggesting an intended attempt to target security personnel, civilian traffic, or nearby infrastructure.
Investigators noted that the perpetrators had excavated a trench extending from the roadside toward the center of the roadway in order to place and conceal the explosive device. This method of concealment appears to have been designed to evade detection while maximizing potential damage upon detonation.
Upon discovery of the threat, security forces immediately cordoned off the area and summoned specialized bomb disposal teams. Following established counter-IED protocols, the device was successfully defused without any loss of life or damage to infrastructure.
