Security forces eliminated a dangerous terrorist linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, formally declared by state and govt of Pakistan as Fitna al-Khwarij, during a successful operation in district Tank, security sources said on Sunday.
The terrorist, identified as Tufail, had reportedly been involved in the martyrdom of two police personnel in a recent attack. According to sources, the terrorist was apprehended in an injured condition during the operation but later succumbed to his wounds and was sent to hell.
The operation was part of continuing intelligence-based efforts aimed at restoring peace and dismantling terrorist networks operating in southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Security officials said operations were being intensified across multiple districts amid growing concerns over terrorist movement, facilitation, and targeted attacks on police and security personnel.
The latest development comes shortly after security forces carried out a successful intelligence-based operation in the Gharah Aslam area of Kulachi tehsil in district Dera Ismail Khan, where two Fitna al Khawarij terrorists were neutralized.
Earlier in Bannu’s Fateh Khel area, security forces had also eliminated five terrorists during an operation targeting suspected hideouts linked to extremist activity in the region.
The Fateh Khel area had recently witnessed a deadly suicide assault on a police check post in which at least 15 police personnel were martyred after terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the facility, one of the deadliest recent attacks in the district.
In another major breakthrough, security forces later neutralized nine terrorists in Bannu’s Jani Khel area during an operation reportedly linked to networks associated with the Fateh Khel suicide attack.
Officials say the back-to-back operations reflect an intensified campaign against terrorist groups and their facilitators operating across the province’s southern belt.
