Law enforcement authorities successfully repelled a midnight attack carried out by Khawarij targeting the Miryan Police Station in Bannu, ensuring the safety of personnel and preventing any loss of life, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to police sources, unidentified Khawarij assailants opened fire on the police station using a sniper rifle in what appears to have been a calculated attempt to target security personnel from a distance. The attack was launched under the cover of darkness, indicating a premeditated effort to exploit limited visibility and create panic.
Police officers stationed at the facility responded swiftly and decisively, returning fire and activating defensive protocols. Their prompt and effective counterfire forced the attackers to abandon their positions and flee the scene.
“Security personnel demonstrated exceptional professionalism, alertness, and courage,” a police spokesperson said. “Their immediate response neutralized the threat and ensured that no casualties were sustained.”
Authorities have confirmed that no loss of life or injuries occurred during the incident. The police station and surrounding infrastructure remained secure.
A search and clearance operation has been launched in the surrounding areas to track down and apprehend the fleeing Khawarij elements. Security across Bannu district has been further tightened, with additional patrols and checkpoints established as a precautionary measure.
Senior police officials commended the bravery and preparedness of the officers involved, reaffirming that such attacks will not weaken the resolve of law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
