Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, publicly questioned whether the Afghan Taliban regime has upheld the commitments it made regarding Afghan soil not being used against other countries.
During a media briefing, the military spokesperson asked whether those assurances were honored or violated, particularly in light of Pakistan’s claim that militant sanctuaries inside Afghanistan were used to launch attacks across the border.
He said Pakistan’s recent cross-border action was not impulsive but rooted in what he described as repeated violations of commitments that Afghan authorities had made to the international community and to regional states.
The DG ISPR asked whether Kabul had fulfilled its pledges under its security guarantees, or whether those commitments had been compromised by allowing militant groups operational space.
He framed the issue as one of state responsibility, arguing that sovereignty comes with obligations, especially the obligation to prevent territory from being used for cross-border terrorism.
He also linked the security question to broader credibility concerns, asking whether other public pledges made by the Taliban, including assurances related to governance and rights, were being upheld in practice.
Pakistan, he said, seeks stability in Afghanistan but cannot ignore attacks emanating from across the border.
