Suicide Blast at Mosque in Rawalpindi Leaves 12 Martyred, 22 Injured

At approximately early afternoon today, a suicide bomber detonated explosives at the entrance gate of a mosque located on the outskirts of Rawalpindi in Islamabad. The attacker was intercepted and confronted by police and security personnel stationed at the gate, preventing him from entering the main prayer hall. Upon being stopped, he exploded himself at the last row of the congregation, resulting in tragic casualties. 12 individuals martyred in the blast, including worshippers and bystanders. 22 others sustained injuries of varying degrees and have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Security forces, including police, rescue teams, and bomb disposal units, responded immediately to the scene and secured the area as part of emergency response procedures. The mosque premises have been cordoned off for forensic investigation and evidence collection. Preliminary reports suggest the bomber was identified as an extremist (“khawrji”) before detonating explosives when prevented from advancing further by vigilant security personnel.

Investigators are actively examining the nature and scope of the attack, with early indications pointing toward a coordinated suicide attack. Authorities continue to pursue all leads as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Emergency protocols have been activated at major hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory, including Polyclinic, PIMS (Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences), and CDA Hospital, where trauma, orthopedics, burns, and neurology teams are treating the injured. Medical staff have been placed on high alert to manage the influx of casualties and provide critical care.

The district administration has fully sealed off the blast site and is working with law enforcement to ensure public safety and prevent further incidents. Police sources confirm that bomb disposal teams are currently evaluating the scene to determine the specifics of the explosive device.

Senior officials have condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms and emphasized that such acts of violence aimed at innocent worshippers will not go unanswered. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
