Police successfully repelled a late-night terrorist attack on the Khati police check post in Dera Ismail Khan after unknown armed militants opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.
According to District Police Officer Dera Ismail Khan, Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada, the attackers targeted the check post under the cover of darkness; however, police personnel responded promptly and with full force, thwarting the assault. As a result of the effective retaliatory action, two terrorists were killed on the spot, while the remaining assailants fled the area.
During the exchange of fire, one police constable sustained minor injuries and was shifted to a nearby medical facility, where his condition was reported to be stable.
DPO Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada personally reached the scene soon after the incident to oversee security arrangements and assess the situation. Senior police officers, including the SP Saddar, DSP City, DSP Suburb, along with additional police contingents, were also present at the site.
Commending the police personnel for their courage and professionalism, the DPO said the attack was repulsed due to the bravery and vigilance of the force. He added that the morale of the police remains high and that security across the district has been further tightened following the incident.
Police have launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to trace and apprehend any remaining suspects, while investigations into the attack are underway.
