In a bold testament to the resilience and professionalism of the police force, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police released its comprehensive annual report for 2025, outlining remarkable successes in the fight against terrorism, crime, and regional instability. Under the visionary leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hamid, the force has demonstrated unparalleled courage and an innovative approach to national security.
Terrorism Tamed with Cutting-Edge Technology and Daring Action
The KP Police’s 2025 report highlighted the force’s combined efforts to tackle terrorism head-on, utilizing the latest in defense technology and rigorous training. The force’s tireless efforts led to the successful disruption of numerous terrorist activities before they could unfold, particularly in high-risk areas like South and tribal districts. Throughout the year, 3,277 intelligence-based operations were carried out, resulting in over 1,300 arrests and the neutralization of 459 terrorists, a significant 43% increase over the previous year.
The report also revealed that 29 high-value targets with bounties on their heads were captured, alongside substantial amounts of explosives, weapons, and ammunition seized. The establishment of new Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch units, backed by provincial government approval, is expected to further strengthen these operations.
A Year of Increased Violence Yet Resilience
While the number of attacks on police increased by 48% compared to 2024, the report highlighted that 83% of these were thwarted, showcasing the force’s improved operational preparedness. Despite the rise in attacks, the number of police martyrs remained comparable to the previous year, underscoring the force’s ability to adapt and respond effectively to emerging threats.
Improving Infrastructure and Community Engagement
The report also touched on significant improvements in police infrastructure across the province. Several new police stations, including in Haripur and Karak, were completed, enhancing the police’s response capabilities. The completion of the two-decade-long Peshawar Mega Safe City Project is also set to improve surveillance, with high-resolution cameras installed at key locations.
On the community front, the KP Police emphasized their proactive policing strategies, including the establishment of Conflict Resolution Councils (DRCs), which helped resolve over 6,347 local disputes in 2025. Additionally, new apps launched by the police aim to bridge the gap between citizens and law enforcement, improving public access to services and grievance redressal.
A Strong Focus on Police Welfare and Training
The welfare of the police force remained a priority, with a record-breaking budget of over PKR 12 billion allocated to support officers and their families. This included healthcare, scholarships, and financial aid for officers’ children. In recognition of their sacrifices, the families of fallen officers received substantial compensation, ensuring the continued well-being of those who give their lives in service.
Moreover, the report underscored the importance of training, with 2,500 recruits completing specialised courses in various fields, including sniping and counterterrorism tactics.
IGP’s Vision for 2026
IGP Zulfiqar Hamid expressed pride in the achievements of the KP Police and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the fight against terrorism in the coming year. “The brave men and women of KP Police have once again shown that they are always prepared to confront any challenge posed by terrorists,” Hamid stated, vowing to continue efforts to ensure the safety and security of the province.
As the new year unfolds, the KP Police’s commitment to excellence remains unwavering, and with ongoing reforms and innovations, they are more determined than ever to ensure peace and security for all.
This report highlights the invaluable role that law enforcement plays in maintaining stability in regions affected by ongoing conflict. With new initiatives and a proven track record, the KP Police are setting a global example in counterterrorism and community policing.
