Türkiye Thwarts Major ISIS Plot Ahead of New Year, 357 Suspects Detained Nationwide

Türkiye’s security forces have successfully foiled a major terrorist threat ahead of the New Year after conducting large-scale counterterrorism operations against the ISIS terrorist network across the country, resulting in the detention of 357 suspected members.

According to Turkish authorities, coordinated operations were carried out in 12 provinces as part of a nationwide crackdown aimed at preventing planned terrorist attacks during New Year celebrations. The operations targeted ISIS-linked cells believed to be actively preparing attacks, particularly in major urban centers.

The Minister of Interior confirmed that Türkiye’s security forces acted decisively to neutralize the threat, emphasizing that the country remains steadfast in its fight against terrorism. The minister stated that law enforcement agencies will never allow those who choose the path of terrorism to endanger public safety or national security.

Authorities also reported that during an operation in the province of Yalova a day earlier, three police officers were martyred in the line of duty, while six ISIS militants were neutralized. Officials praised the bravery and sacrifice of the security personnel, reaffirming that their actions played a critical role in protecting the nation from imminent danger.

In separate statements, Turkish officials revealed that 137 additional suspects involved in planning recent attacks had been apprehended over the past several days. In light of continued ISIS activity near the Syrian border, security measures have been significantly tightened, and counterterrorism operations remain ongoing to safeguard the public.

The Ministry of Interior reiterated Türkiye’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism, stressing that no terrorist organization will be allowed to operate within the country under any circumstances.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that 110 suspects were detained in the city for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks during New Year celebrations. Meanwhile, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that arrest warrants have been issued for 17 ISIS-linked suspects, including 11 foreign nationals.

Security forces also noted that more than 100 suspected ISIS members were arrested in recent raids in Istanbul alone. During these operations, a significant quantity of weapons was seized, further underscoring the seriousness of the planned attacks.

Turkish authorities concluded that vigilance will remain high and that security institutions will continue proactive and intelligence-driven operations to ensure the safety of citizens and the stability of the country, particularly during periods of heightened public activity.
