A most wanted terrorist commander was killed in a joint operation carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department Lakki and Lakki Police, officials said on Thursday.
The slain militant was identified as Barkat, also known as Barkati and Abu Zar, who was operating under multiple aliases and was considered the ringleader of an active terrorist network in the district.
Police said Barkat was wanted in more than ten cases, including terrorism, attacks on security forces, murder, attempted murder, and extortion.
According to officials, the militant was involved in the targeted killings of former Levies personnel Hidayatullah, Constable Hafiz Zainatullah, and others.
The operation was conducted in the outskirts of Wanda Amir Khan, where volunteers of the local peace committee actively participated alongside police personnel.
Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan lauded the CTD and Lakki Police for the successful operation and issued special commendation for their effective coordination and bravery.
