US Launches Intense Airstrikes on ISIS Targets in Syria Following Killing of American Troops

The United States has launched a series of intense airstrikes against ISIS hideouts in central Syria in response to the killing of American troops during a joint patrol operation, escalating its military campaign against the militant group. According to international media reports, US fighter jets and attack helicopters carried out precision strikes on multiple ISIS targets in central Syria, successfully hitting militant positions and infrastructure. US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the operation, codenamed “Hawk Eye Strike,” was aimed at dismantling ISIS’s core infrastructure, weapons depots, and operational capabilities.
“The objective of Operation Hawk Eye Strike is clear: to degrade and destroy ISIS’s remaining networks and deny the group any ability to threaten US forces or regional stability,” the Pentagon said, underscoring Washington’s commitment to preventing a resurgence of the extremist organization. The airstrikes come days after a deadly incident near the ancient Syrian city of Tadmur (Palmyra), where US and Syrian forces came under fire during a joint patrol. The attack resulted in the deaths of two US soldiers and one American civilian, prompting strong condemnation from Washington. Following the incident, President Donald Trump had vowed a “very strong response” against those responsible.
After the launch of the air campaign, President Trump issued a statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, confirming that US forces were carrying out “powerful and sustained strikes” against ISIS positions in Syria. He also stated that the Syrian government was fully supporting the US military action.
“We are striking ISIS hard in Syria, exactly as promised,” President Trump said. “Those who attack America will face consequences far greater than they expect. Our response will be decisive and relentless.”
The US president reiterated that the operation was part of Washington’s broader pledge to eliminate ISIS remnants and ensure the safety of American personnel deployed abroad. He warned that any future attacks on US forces would be met with even harsher retaliation.
Meanwhile, the Syrian government has also announced that it will continue its military operations against ISIS, signaling increased coordination against the militant group. Syrian officials welcomed the intensified campaign, stating that sustained pressure was essential to uprooting ISIS cells operating in desert and remote regions.
Security analysts note that despite significant territorial losses in recent years, ISIS continues to pose a threat through sporadic attacks and insurgent tactics. The latest US airstrikes are expected to further weaken the group’s operational capacity and disrupt its ability to carry out coordinated assaults. The situation remains fluid, with US defense officials indicating that further actions could follow if ISIS attempts retaliatory attacks or threatens American and allied forces in the region.
