An Afghan national was arrested in Islamabad for possessing a fake United States Embassy card and impersonating a diplomatic staff member, police said.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Haris, had been using a forged embassy card to present himself as an official of the US Embassy. He was already wanted by police in multiple fraud cases, while the US Embassy had also lodged a complaint regarding the suspect.
Police and sensitive agencies had earlier identified the Afghan national. He was apprehended while attempting to enter the Diplomatic Enclave in a vehicle along with two women. With assistance from sensitive agencies, police arrested Haris and shifted him to Secretariat Police Station for further investigation.
Authorities are investigating possible links and the extent of the fraud, while further legal proceedings are underway.
