At UN, Denmark Flags TTP as Major Regional Threat Operating from Afghanistan

Danish Ambassador to the United Nations, Christina Markus Lassen, has sounded a clear warning regarding the growing threat posed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), noting that the group continues to destabilise regional security from its bases inside Afghanistan.

Addressing the United Nations, Ambassador Lassen stated that an estimated 6,000 TTP militants are currently operating from Afghan soil, posing a persistent and serious challenge to peace and stability across the region.

She expressed concern that the Taliban authorities are providing logistical support and other forms of assistance to the banned outfit, enabling its resurgence and strengthening its operational capacity. This support, she said, is contributing to an increased risk of terrorism spreading across neighbouring countries.

Ambassador Lassen noted that the TTP has repeatedly used Afghan territory to launch cross-border attacks against Pakistan, resulting in significant loss of life and destabilising security conditions. She emphasised that this threat does not affect Pakistan alone but endangers the stability of the entire region.

Calling for decisive international action, the Danish envoy urged the global community to take serious note of the expanding threat and work collectively to dismantle terrorist safe havens inside Afghanistan. She stressed that coordinated global efforts are essential to curbing extremist networks and preventing further violence.

Ambassador Lassen reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to supporting regional peace initiatives, counterterrorism cooperation, and measures aimed at eliminating safe havens that allow terrorist organisations to regroup and operate with impunity.
