The Russian Federation has expressed its readiness to facilitate dialogue between Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan, underscoring Moscow’s commitment to supporting long-term stability and peace in South Asia. The announcement was made by Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev during an address at the Islamabad Institute of Strategic Studies.
Ambassador Khorev said that Russia views the current regional security environment with deep concern, noting that the situation in Afghanistan remains highly sensitive for Moscow. He stated that Russia stands prepared to play a constructive mediatory role to help reduce tensions between Pakistan and its neighbours.
Highlighting the destabilising influence of external powers in South Asia, the ambassador reaffirmed that Russia consistently supports regional-led solutions, counterterrorism efforts, and initiatives aimed at enhancing stability.
“Disputes between neighbouring countries are best addressed by regional actors themselves,” Ambassador Khorev said. He emphasised that Pakistan remains a key strategic partner for Russia, given its significant geopolitical position and diplomatic influence.
The ambassador also reiterated Moscow’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan in areas of economic and social development, affirming that bilateral engagement will continue to expand.
The remarks come shortly after Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, a development widely viewed as a sign of increasing warmth and strategic alignment in Pakistan–Russia relations.
