UN Chief Guterres Calls for Accountability After Islamabad Terror Blast

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Islamabad, expressing profound grief over the loss of lives in the suicide bombing that struck the federal capital.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Guterres said he was deeply saddened by the tragic incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, praying for the swift recovery of those injured. The UN chief urged that those responsible for the heinous act be brought to justice without delay and called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the attack.

It may be recalled that a day earlier, a suicide bomber affiliated with the militant group Fitna al-Khawarij detonated explosives outside the Islamabad District Courts, killing 12 people and injuring 36 others. The United States and Chinese embassies in Pakistan have also denounced the act of terrorism and expressed solidarity with the victims and the people of Pakistan.
