Security forces foiled a major attack on Cadet College Wana after a suicide blast at the institution’s main entrance, officials and security sources said. The operation to clear the area was ongoing late Saturday, with initial reports indicating that four to five militants have been killed.

Sources said the militant group Fitna al-Khawarij attempted what appeared to be a repeat of the Army Public School-style massacre, but swift action by security personnel prevented attackers from entering the college compound. The clearance operation continues as forces systematically cordon and sweep the area for any remaining assailants or explosive devices.

Cadet College Wana was founded at the request of local tribal elders and educates large numbers of students from the Mehsud and Wazir tribes. The institution, which provides advanced schooling for the region’s youth, counts many alumni serving in senior national positions.

Security officials described the attackers as following the same brutal intent behind the 2014 Army Public School attack, but said the prompt response of security forces prevented a repeat tragedy. Local authorities warned the public to avoid the area while clearance operations were under way.

No official casualty figures for civilians or students have been released; authorities urged against speculation until a full assessment is completed. Investigations into the attack, including forensic and bomb-disposal work, are ongoing.

A spokesman for the provincial government and representatives of the security establishment were expected to brief the media once the operation is complete and the situation declared secure.
