Pakistani security forces successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a checkpoint in the Spinwam subdivision of North Waziristan on Friday, killing three Khawarij and injuring several others affiliated with the banned group Fitna al-Khawarij, according to official sources.
The foiled attack came just hours after a major counterterrorism operation in the Datta Khel area, where security forces neutralized an entire formation of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, eliminating 15 Khawarij in the Dwa Kamar area in what is being described as a significant blow to the network.
According to sources, the Spinwam assault was launched by Khawarij targeting a security checkpoint. However, forces responded swiftly and decisively, thwarting the attack. In the ensuing firefight, three militants were killed, several wounded, and the attackers forced to flee, dragging their injured accomplices.
Security officials confirmed that the prompt response by soldiers not only repelled the attackers but also prevented any breach of the post, underscoring their preparedness and operational strength.
These back-to-back successes reflect a recent pattern of failures and retreats for Khawarij in the region. Just a day earlier, security forces in Mohmand District foiled two separate militant assaults in different areas, inflicting losses and forcing the attackers to withdraw.
In other recent operations, cross-border infiltration attempts from Afghanistan were also decisively dealt with. In Tirah Valley, a militant, confirmed to be an Afghan national, was killed and another injured while attempting to cross into Pakistani territory. Meanwhile, in Bajaur, four armed militants were eliminated in a similar infiltration bid.
Security analysts say the cumulative effect of these operations is steadily eroding the operational capacity of terrorist outfits in the tribal belt, especially those attempting to launch attacks from across the Afghan border.
