A late-night exchange of fire between Lakki Marwat police and two armed assailants left one khariji dead and another wounded on the run near Dabak Mor petrol station on Friday, officials confirmed.
Police said the incident occurred late in the evening while officers were waiting to receive the body of martyred constable Zeenat Ullah. Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the police party, triggering a brief gun battle.
During the exchange, one attacker was shot dead at the scene while the second fled, reportedly injured. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search to track the escapee.
A Quick Reaction Force from 43 Punjab Regiment, supported by two bullet-proof vehicles and an MRAP, moved to the site to assist in clearing operations.
Officials say sanitization of the area is under way.
