Nine Khawarij Killed in Major Anti-Terror Operation in Upper Dir Mountains

Khawarij, Targeted Operation in Upper Dir, Fitna al-Khawarij

A three-day targeted operation led by the Upper Dir Police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has resulted in the killing of nine Khawarij linked to banned outfits, with five bodies recovered, including that of a key local commander.

According to Syed Muhammad Bilal, District Police Officer (DPO) Upper Dir, the operation was launched in the rugged mountainous terrain of Salam Kot, Hatun Dara, Baikare, and Doobando based on confirmed intelligence reports about militant presence. The operation was carried out with the support of Elite Police Quick Response Force, CTD, and other specialised units including Al-Barq Commandos, Bomb Disposal Squad, and DSB staff.

Militants’ hideouts were targeted and destroyed. Among the dead is Sajid, a key local commander of Fitna al-khawarij,” said DPO Bilal.

Security officials utilised advanced weaponry, armoured vehicles (APCs), thermal imaging, and drone surveillance to track and neutralise the militants.

Despite fierce resistance from the militants, security forces maintained control. Ten police personnel were injured during the firefight, while two local civilians lost their lives due to militant gunfire.

DPO Bilal confirmed that the operation will continue until the complete elimination of terrorist elements from the region:

“This brave and professional action by our forces is a critical step toward lasting peace in Upper Dir. Our police remain ready to sacrifice everything to protect lives and defeat terrorism.”

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the courage and commitment of the Upper Dir Police and CTD personnel, commending their professionalism in the face of dangerous conditions.

The operation is seen as a significant blow to the remnants of terrorist networks operating near the border regions and a strong message of zero tolerance for militancy.
