Three Children Killed, Four Injured as Mortar Shell Explodes in Lakki Marwat

Tragedy struck in the Sorband Langarkhel area within the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station  when an old mortar shell exploded, killing three children and injuring four others, locals claimed that in the area Khawarij use mortar for terrorist activities and yet some time it remain un exploded and later when children play with it it explodes. According to police and rescue sources, the children had discovered the unexploded ordnance in a nearby deserted area and brought it home. While playing with it, the mortar shell detonated with a loud blast, causing devastating injuries.

Rescue 1122 ambulances were immediately dispatched to the site, and emergency teams transported the victims to City Hospital. Hospital authorities confirmed that two of the deceased and four injured children had been shifted to the facility by the time of reporting, while one more child succumbed to injuries en route.

“The explosion caused chaos inside the emergency ward. It was a heartbreaking sight,” said a hospital official. Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area, and bomb disposal experts have been called in to examine the site and rule out the presence of any other unexploded devices. Preliminary investigations suggest the mortar shell may have been an old remnant of conflict or military activity in the area.

The incident has raised serious concerns over the presence of unexploded ordnance in civilian areas, with locals demanding immediate clearance operations and public awareness to prevent further tragedies.
