The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for a deadly assault on a Taliban checkpoint in Kabul, resulting in the deaths of three Taliban fighters and injuries to two members of the Taliban’s notorious morality police.

The attack occurred on July 31 in the Chilston area of Police District 7, according to a statement released by the AFF late Thursday. The group said its fighters targeted personnel from the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, who were reportedly stopping vehicles and harassing civilians at the checkpoint.

The AFF framed the operation as part of its broader campaign to resist Taliban repression—particularly the systemic targeting of Afghan women. The group declared that the Taliban’s so-called morality police, responsible for enforcing harsh social codes, are “legitimate military targets” due to their role in gender-based oppression.

Taliban officials have yet to respond to the attack, maintaining their usual silence on claims made by armed resistance groups.

The Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has faced increasing backlash in recent weeks following reports of mass detentions of women and girls across Kabul. These actions have drawn sharp condemnation from Afghan civil society and international human rights organisations alike, intensifying scrutiny of the Taliban’s treatment of women.

The AFF, which has carried out several similar operations, says it remains committed to defending the rights and dignity of Afghan women under Taliban rule.
